Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (AB Socio)

 

Sociology is a branch of Social Science that systematically study life, groups, societies, world systems, and virtual communities, focusing on the dynamic interplay between individual and society.

The AB Sociology program produces graduates who will contribute to the production, interpretation, transmission, and application of knowledge generated from social research that is informed by economic, political, ecological, and socio-cultural trends in the local and global arena. It recognizes the role of competent training in social research towards multiculturalism and nation-building as it provides an interdisciplinary understanding and appreciation of human society. It examines how human action and consciousness both shape and being shaped by social relationships, structures, and changes. It gives students the ability to engage in a critical examination of their social world and those beyond their personal experience of what C. Wright Mills called the “Sociological Imagination.”

Program Outcomes based on CMO 40 series of 2017

  1. Ability to engage in lifelong learning and understanding of the need to keep abreast of developments in a specific field of practice;
  2. The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino;
  3. The ability to work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
  4. Recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility; and
  5. An appreciation of Filipino historical and cultural heritage

 

AB Sociology program is a four (4) year course that requires to complete 125 credit units and has the  following Major requirements:

  • Social Research
  • Community Organizing
  • Thesis Writing (Socio 198 and 199)
  • On the Job Training taken in Occupational Internship Program (Practicum 24) in different identified agencies, which include mining industries (COMRELL), NCIP, and DSWD.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the AB Sociology program could engage in any profession that requires an understanding of groups such as teaching, research development work in private and public entities, corporate social responsibility (CSR), community development practitioners, cultural workers, and pursue further advanced training.
